The Arewa Consultative Progressive Forum (ACPF) says it will only support candidates for the 2027 General Elections who meet clear standards of credibility, competence, and dedication to national development.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, July 22, 2026, in Abuja and signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Hon. Ahmed Tijjani Mustapha, the Forum said it has decided to evaluate all aspirants seeking public office based on a transparent standard that prioritizes merit and leadership skills over religious, ethnic, or political ties.

“The time has come for us in Arewa and across Nigeria to prioritize competence over sentiment,” Mustapha said.

“ACPF will not endorse or support candidates based solely on tribe, religion, or party loyalty. Our focus is on individuals with proven leadership skills, a record of service, and a genuine commitment to rebuilding our institutions and reorienting our society toward productivity and unity.”

According to the Forum, Nigeria’s progress depends on electing leaders who demonstrate dedication, integrity, and a true commitment to the social reorientation of citizens and the country at large.

To guide its evaluation, ACPF outlined four key criteria it will use for all aspirants ahead of 2027: credibility and integrity in public and private life, demonstrated leadership ability and capacity to deliver results, commitment to hard work and accountability, and a vision for social reorientation that fosters unity, education, and economic empowerment for all Nigerians.

Mustapha emphasized that the initiative is not connected to any political party but is a citizen-led effort to improve the quality of representation at all levels of government.

He urged political parties, civil society organizations, traditional institutions, and voters across Northern Nigeria and the entire country to adopt the same standards and reject divisive politics.

“Nigeria deserves leaders chosen on merit. That is the only path to sustainable development,” the statement added.

The ACPF describes itself as a socio-political platform dedicated to good governance, youth development, and national unity in Northern Nigeria and across the federation.
