Enugu Air Aircraft Veers Off Runway at Benin Airport, No Casualties Reported

An Enugu Air aircraft veered off the runway after landing at Benin Airport on Thursday, with the airline confirming that all passengers and crew members were safely evacuated without injuries.

The incident, classified in aviation as a runway excursion, involved one of the Enugu State-owned carrier’s Embraer regional jets.

In a statement posted on its official X (formerly Twitter) account, Enugu Air said the aircraft experienced the runway excursion shortly after landing and that the appropriate aviation authorities had been notified in accordance with established safety procedures.

“Enugu Air wishes to inform the public that one of our aircraft operating into Benin experienced a runway excursion after landing today.

“We confirm that all passengers and crew have safely disembarked, and there were no injuries or casualties.

“The aircraft has been secured, and the relevant aviation authorities have been notified in line with established procedures. An assessment of the aircraft and the circumstances surrounding the occurrence is currently underway,” the airline stated.

The airline assured passengers and the public that safety remains its top priority, adding that investigations into the incident are ongoing.

Enugu Air also warned that the runway excursion may lead to temporary adjustments to some of its flight schedules as authorities assess the aircraft and determine the cause of the incident.

No official cause of the runway excursion had been announced as of the time of filing this report.
