Fire guts parts of Federal Mortgage Bank headquarters

The Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria (FMBN) says a fire broke out in parts of its head office in Central Business District, Abuja, on Saturday.

In a statement on Sunday, Joe Abuku, group head, corporate communications, FMB, said combined teams from the Federal Fire Service and the FCT Fire Service responded promptly to the incident, containing the flames and bringing the fire under control.

The bank said no injuries were recorded.

“This is to inform the general public that an unfortunate fire incident occurred on parts of the second floor of the Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria (FMBN) Head Office in the Central Business District of Abuja, at a few minutes past 8pm on Saturday,” the statement reads.

“Combined teams from the Federal Fire Service and the FCT Fire Service quickly deployed to the building were able to contain the flames and bring the fire under control.

“Thankfully, no injuries were recorded. Investigations are underway to ascertain the cause of the fire.”

The bank added that a detailed statement will be issued once we determine the extent of damage.

“We thank our stakeholders and the public for their concern and support,” FMBN added.

The bank also commended the police and the fire service for their quick response to the situation, “which helped to immediately put out the fire”.
