Ebola: Women protest Sept 22 school’s resumption date in Lagos

A group of women, led by President Campaign for Democracy (CD)  and Women Arise- Drjoeokie Odumakin, has said that there must be adequate preparation and safety on Ebola Virus Disease, EVD provided by the government before schools can be allowed to resume.

She made this statement at the Ebola awareness campaign, organized by Women Arise for Change Initiative, adding that it will be a risk to allow the children resume by September 2.

“Schools are not car parks, where cars are park at owners risk; people are there to drop their children in ensuring that each child is safe. The private school should exercise patience for government to do the necessary arrangement for the safety of the student to avoid great loss of lives,” Dr. Odumakin said.

She added that government must ensure that there are 3 health practitioners in every primary and secondary school, to look after the welfare of the children and also running taps and hand sanitizer for both the children and teachers.

Dr Odumakin in her statement said what Boko Haram is now, will become a child’s play if any single child contact this virus, it will be difficult to curtain because each child is a nation.

President, Medical Women Association of Nigeria (Lagos chapter), Dr. Iyabo Tijjani, explained that Ebola is real and proper hygienic can help prevent the spread of disease, not that any suspected case should be report, although no definite treatment but if treated early it can be prevented.

A comedian, Gbenga Adeyinka, also at the campaign noted that Ebola is not a respecter of anyone either rich or poor, it is a deadly disease that can be easily spread,people should ensure there environment are clean and tidy.
