Tungan Madaki-Zuba road, 9 others ready before 2027 polls – Wike

Date:

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has expressed confidence that at least 10 major road and infrastructure projects across Abuja will be completed and commissioned ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Speaking on Wednesday during an inspection tour of key capital projects—including the Tungan Madaki–Zuba Road and the Nile University–RR3 Road corridor, Wike cited strong contractor capacity and commitment as the driving force behind the rapid progress.

For Tungan Madaki–Zuba Progress, five out of six box culverts have been completed on the route by China Geo-Engineering Corporation (CGC), with handover slated for December.

It was gathered that despite receiving under 30% in mobilization funds for these high-capital projects, contractors have maintained continuous site execution.

Wike affirmed that the FCT Administration (FCTA) will fulfill its financial obligations to ensure contractors are paid as work progresses.

The administration aims to line up a minimum of 10 completed projects for commissioning before the 2027 electoral cycle.

According to him: “They have the capacity and the equipment… So, they’ve been tested before now, and I have so much confidence in them that they’ll keep to their promise.”

In addition to inspecting construction sites, the Minister reaffirmed the FCTA’s crackdown on illegal structures blocking natural drainage channels and contributing to urban flooding across the capital.

Demolition exercises that began in Maitama will expand to all affected districts to restore natural stormwater paths.

The Director, Development of Urban and Regional Planning has been officially queried for issuing unauthorized approvals allowing commercial car dealerships to occupy green areas and recreational parks.

Also, a specialized task force has been set up to immediately evict all car vendors operating in designated green spaces.

Dismissing online criticisms regarding demolitions, Wike noted that erecting structures on public waterways violates basic planning laws and endangers entire communities.
