FUDMA Opens First Printing Press in 14 Years
The Federal University Dutsin-Ma (FUDMA) has opened its first printing press to provide essential printing services to the university community, including the production of examination booklets and other academic and administrative materials.
The printing press was put up by the University Library and is located within the library. It is the first printing press owned by the university since the institution commenced academic activities 14 years ago.
Speaking during the commissioning, the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Mohammed Khalid Othman commended the library management for the initiative and called on members of the university community to enourage its operation by patronising it.
According to him, the printing press provides important electronic services which the university would be the first major beneficiary.
“By the special grace of Almighty God, the initiative would develop into a robust and dynamic printing press capable of meeting the University’s needs and withstanding future challenges,” Prof Othman said.
The Vice Chancellor, however, noted that the location of the printing press within the Library was not ideal and pledged to provide a suitable building for it.
“Printing activities generate considerable noise, while a library environment requires a quiet atmosphere conducive for reading and research. We’ll provide a suitable building for the relocation of the printing press to operate more conveniently and efficiently,” he added.
Prof. Othman said that for now, the printing press would remain under the management of the University Library, but “as the facility grows and expands its operations, consideration could be given to making it an independent unit of the university”.
He prayed for the growth and continuous improvement of the initiative for the benefit of the entire university community.
