I won’t return to school, says survivor of FCE Kano attack

Ahmad Kawu Hadejia,one of the survivors of the Federal College of Education (FCE) Kano, terror attack on Wednesday, said he would discontinue his degree programme in the institution.

Hadejia, a 100 level student of the department of languages in the institution, said, he would rather consider pursuing a job with his N.C.E. certificate in his home town, Hadejia Local Government, of Jigawa State than pursue degree in the institution.

Narrating his ordeal, the 35-year old, stated that the gunmen stormed both the lecture halls as lectures were going on, around 1:53 Pm, and opened fire on the students.

“I won’t return to this school. I would rather look for a job with my N.C.E. certificate in my town because I was really scared and witnessing the attack with my eyes have put more fears in me, I don’t think I would return to the school.”

“I saw three of the attackers, all wearing black suits, when they stormed the lecture room where I was sitting in. When the first one entered and opened fire on us, the remaining two also followed him and fired gunshots on us. The other one of them threw a bomb into the opposite lecture hall packed with students. As we were running, I just fell down and played dead because I knew it was the only way I could escape. It was then I was hit by a stray bullet on my thigh and sustain various injuries because of the stampede by the students running for their lives.” He stated.

Another victim, a 12-year old, Abdulbasi Nasiru, who was shot also on his thigh while selling sachet water in the school, also said he saw the attackers in black suits.

Nasiru added that he was shot at his thigh while running away when the insurgents came close to him.

Meanwhile, the Minister of Education, Mallam Ibrahim Shekarau, simultaneously visited the scenes of the attack, in the FCE and victims of the attack at the Murtala Muhammad Hospital.

Addressing the crowed, the minister prayed for quick recovery for the injured victims and prayed for eternal peace for the soul of the dead ones.

While condemning the attack, Shekarau also prayed for peace to reign in the country, particularly the northern region.
