From Femi Oyelola, Kaduna

The Nigerian Postal Service (NIPOST) is to partner the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) in the conduct of Computer Based Test (CTB) in rural areas of the North-West Zone comprising Kaduna, Kano, Sokoto, Kebbi, Zamfara and Jigawa states.
The Postmaster General of the Federation/CEO, Barrister Bisi Adegbuyi disclosed this during a zonal strategic management retreat held in Kaduna yesterday.
According to Barr Adegbuyi, NIPOST is already established in rural communities and will be beneficial to it because it will soon click into the new technology that will allow people to write the CTB examination in their communities without traveling far. He added that this is important because technology has advanced to the level that examinations and interviews are conducted online; and NIPOST want to be part of it.
He disclosed that today NIPOST is a rejuvenated organization that is cleaning its business environment and getting rid of junks to attract customers. He however said one of the greatest challenges to the relevance of NIPOST is in the area of product offering.
“For a long time NIPOST has remained a mono-product organization focusing mainly on mail that too is changing as evidenced by our innovative product launch of October 9th and the various initiatives that are currently going on”, he said.
The Postmaster General of the Federation who was represented by the Director, Human Resources, Aliyu Bashir Mahmoud, advised NIPOST staff to drop the narrow mindedness, pessimistic tendencies and embrace positivism.
In his address, the Zonal Manager Kaduna, Mr. Steven Mbaya, said the Zonal Strategic Management Retreat is significant because it will give the staff the opportunity to interact and share knowledge on the restructuring bid and strategize on how to ‘Post the Post into Prosperity’.
Going down the history lane, Mbaya said restricting of the Post had been on for over a decade but this was not to be, until 3rd July, 2017 when the Postmaster General actualized the dream.
Speaking earlier, Kaduna State Governor, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai said the State Government is partnering with NIPOST by naming all the streets and numbering them to ensure that accessibility is made easy.
El-Rufai who was represented by the State Commissioner for Work and Transport, Engineer Mahmoud Hassan disclosed that state government has offset the N5million debt owed to Kaduna zonal office as a way to encourage NIPOST to move forward.
