Boko Haram: IDPs c’ttees yet to receive Sheriff’s N150m donation – Saleh

Date:

From Mustapha Isah Kwaru, Maiduguri

The five sub-committees established by the Borno state Governor, Kashim Shettima to take charge of the affairs at the internally displaced persons (IDPs) camps, yesterday said they were yet to receive any financial gift from the former governor of the state, Senator Ali Modu Sheriff.

They however, said they are ready to receive the N150 million allegedly given by the former governor to the victims of recent insurgency attacks in the troubled state should he bring it forward. It would be recalled that some national dailies had reported that during the visit of the former governor to the state, he gave N30 million each to the five IDPs camps within Maiduguri to be shared among the victims of insurgency attacks in various parts of the state now accommodated at the facilities.

However, leading the other chairmen of the subcommittees to a press conference, the Chairman of the IDPs camp at the Government Girls Secondary School, Yerwa, Alhaji Al-Amin Kam Saleh said no camp has received any N30 million from the former governor.

He said “we perceive it is a pledge and we will gladly receive it when it is given.”

He added: “But we can tell you that a truckload of rice was given to each of the two camps at NYSC Orientation camp and Government Girls Secondary School, Yerwa.”

He said the bags of rice given by the former governor to the two camps were 12,000 bags, insisting that nothing more was received from the former governor.
