Barely 48 hours after 15 students of Federal College of Education, Kano and another killed in Sanga local government of Kaduna state, the Northern traditional rulers have said it is worried about the escalation of Boko Haram insurgency and cattle rustling in the region.
“The council condemned in its entirely the bomb blast that occurred at Federal College of Education in Kano which led to the loss of innocent lives and properties. It condoled Kano Emirate Council, the Kano state government, families of the victims and prayed for the response of the departed souls, and speedy recovery of the injured victims.”
The royal fathers stated this in a communiqué issued in Kaduna yesterday after a one-day meeting of chairmen of states traditional council from the nineteen northern states.
The communiqué signed by the Etsu Nupe, His Royal Highness Dr. Yahaya Abubakar stated that the greatest threat to the youths of the north today is the security challenges confronting the region and it is becoming more dangerous when security agents cry out that they are encountering problems in discharging their duties of protecting the territorial integrity of the country.
The royal fathers also expressed dismay over non-implementation of recommendation contained in previous reports on security challenges and therefore resolved to immediately intimate President Goodluck Jonathan and the Northern States Governors Forum of its stands on security problem in the region.
The council expressed concern over the suffering being faced by the displaced persons affected by the nefarious activities of insurgency and resolved to mobilize assistance (food and medications) for delivery to the refugee camps in Borno, Yobe and Adamawa states.
