2027: Tinubu Support Group begins Kano mobilization, lists economic gains

The Tinubu Support Groups (TSG) has begun a fresh mobilization drive in Kano State ahead of the 2027 general elections, declaring that President Bola Tinubu’s administration has stabilized Nigeria’s economy and deserves another term.

The group made the declaration on Saturday during the inauguration of the TSG 2.0 state chapters in Kano, where its leadership used the occasion to highlight what it described as economic and infrastructural achievements of the Tinubu administration.

TSG Director-General, Dr Umar Tanko-Yakasai, said Tinubu inherited a severely weakened economy but had taken measures that, in his assessment, prevented the country from sliding into deeper economic crisis.

He cited rising foreign reserves, declining inflation, economic growth and increased allocations to state governments as evidence of what he described as a turnaround under the administration.

“Our foreign reserves have hit over $53 billion from net $3.89 billion, inflation down to 15.43 per cent from over 34 per cent,” Mr Tanko-Yakasai said.

He added that Nigeria’s gross domestic product grew by 4.43 per cent in the second quarter of 2026, with nominal GDP reaching N119.27 trillion.

According to him, the Federal Government had also cleared more than $78 billion in loans as well as an additional $3.5 billion COVID-19 loan, while increased Federation Account Allocation Committee (FAAC) disbursements had strengthened the finances of state governments.

He said several states were now capable of meeting their salary obligations without relying on federal bailouts, while some had begun servicing inherited debts.

Beyond the economy, the TSG director-general pointed to the establishment of the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND), local government financial autonomy and the creation of additional regional development commissions as other notable policies of the administration.

He also highlighted Tinubu’s appointments of more than 50 Kano indigenes into various positions in the Federal Government, describing the appointments as evidence of the administration’s commitment to inclusion.

On infrastructure, Mr Tanko-Yakasai listed the completion of the Kano-Kaduna expressway and ongoing construction of the Gwarzo-Dayi, Katsina and Daura roads among projects he said demonstrated the administration’s attention to Kano.

“Mr President has done a lot for Kano and is still doing more,” he said.

The event, however, was not merely a review of the administration’s performance but also a mobilisation exercise for the 2027 election.

Mr Tanko-Yakasai charged the newly inaugurated state executives to commence grassroots mobilization immediately and work towards securing victory for President Tinubu in the next presidential election.

TSG convener, James Abiodun-Faleke, described the large turnout at the event as evidence of growing support for the president and declared that Kano remained an All Progressives Congress (APC) state.

The APC chairman in Kano, Umar Doguwa, similarly asserted that the state belonged to the ruling party.

Former APC national chairman, Dr Abdullahi Ganduje, also defended the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda, describing it as a policy framework designed to address challenges such as poverty, insecurity and weak economic growth.

With the inauguration, the TSG has effectively shifted its activities in Kano from general support for the administration to a more organized grassroots campaign structure as the 2027 elections approach.
