The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has updated its official records to reflect the new logo and leadership structure of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), following a Federal High Court judgment directing the commission to recognize the party’s modifications.

The development represents a legal victory for the NDC ahead of the 2027 general elections, after the party challenged INEC’s earlier refusal to upload its modified logo and colour design on the commission’s platform.

INEC’s website now displays the NDC’s new logo and lists Cleopas Moses Zuwoghe as National Chairman and Ikenna Morgan Enekweizu as National Secretary.

Other officials reflected in the updated records are John Odey, National Treasurer; Mainasara Abubakar Sani, National Financial Secretary; and Reuben Egwuaba, National Legal Adviser.

INEC indicated that the five leadership positions were updated “by court order”, signaling compliance with the judgment of the Federal High Court in Abuja.

The dispute followed the NDC’s adoption of a modified logo and colour design at its first National Executive Committee meeting. The party subsequently sought INEC’s recognition and inclusion of the new identity on its official platform.

However, after INEC declined to recognize the changes, the NDC instituted a legal action against the electoral commission in suit No. FHC/ABJ/CS/1814/2026.

Justice J. O. Abdulmalik, in a judgment delivered on September 8, 2026, ruled in favour of the party.

The court held that INEC’s refusal to recognize the modified logo was unconstitutional and illegal, describing the action as an infringement on the rights of the political party.

Following the judgment, INEC has now amended its online records to reflect the NDC’s new identity and the leadership positions covered by the court order.

The update comes at a significant period as political parties intensify preparations for the 2027 elections, with the NDC now having its revised logo and leadership structure reflected on the electoral commission’s official platform.
