The Acting Inspector General of Police (AIGP), Suleiman Abba, has said that the force is not relegated to the background by the activities of the Military in curbing terrorism in the country.
Abba stated this yesterday in Abuja while fielding questions from news men on the current dominance in restoring national security by the Nigerian Army.
At the meeting yesterday with top brass of the police, the IGP said “the military is only playing its constitutional role and that does not relegate the police in anyway.
“The military is working in all the states and there is nothing wrong with them performing their constitutional duties. They also work with the civil authorities which are led by the police. By so doing, they are collaboratively working with the police and the people”.
Speaking on 2015 elections, the police boss said preparations are in top gear to provide adequate security of lives and property during the elections.
“Like I said, the meeting will dwell so much on the elections. We are going to restrategise on how to provide adequate security for the election. At the end of the meeting, we will come out with a road map on how to go about it.
“We will also work with the State Security Service (SSS) to ensure that nobody with criminal record is allowed to contest the election”.
