A fifty year old man Kefas Mashi of Sabon Layi village, Ado-Kola Local Government area of Taraba state has been arraigned before a Jalingo Chief Magistrate’s Court for allegedly beheading his neighbour.
The accused is charged with culpable homicide punishable with death under section two hundred and twenty-two of the penal Code.
Police report alleged that on the thirteenth of August this year, the complainant Andrawus Ranjovo, went to visit his 63 year-old mother, Koki Magoti of Sabon-Layi village but discovered that his mother had been beheaded, with her left palm chopped off.
Reports further alleged that the severed head and left palm of the woman was taken away by an unknown person.
Subsequently, Kefas Mashi of the same address, was suspected to be the murderer, during an investigation and was arrested in connection with the crime.
When the case was mentioned, the Police Prosecutor Tyondo Oliver prayed the court to read the First Information Report FIR, to the accused which the Chief Magistrate, Ali Bappa granted.
Bappa did not stake the plea of the accused saying that the Penal Code two, two, one was not under his jurisdiction and ordered the accused to be remanded in prison custody pending outcome of the legal advice from the office of the Director of Police Prosecution (DPP), of the Ministry of Justice as he adjourned the case to sixteen of next month for further hearing.
