The senior magistrate Court 11 in Damaturu, the capital of Yobe state has sentenced a 21 year old labourer, Gambo Ali, a resident of Ali Marami Housing Estate Damaturu, for criminal home trespass, theft and criminal intimidation.
The prosecutor, Zakar Saleh told the court that case was reported at the police station on the 3rd of February, 2014 at about 1730 hours by one Umar Dan Lami and one Audu Mohammed both of Ali Marami housing estate Damaturu.
He further told the court that on the 2nd of February, 2014, unknown persons entered the house of Umar Dan Lami and stole away some handsets, ear rings and necklaces valued at N38, 200.00.
He told the court that when the footprints of the intruders were followed, it led to the house of the accused person, Gambo Ali of Ali Marami housing estate Damaturu.
He told the court that while the accused person was granted bail at the police station, he went and invited some people who claimed to be security agents and went to the house of Audu Mohammed saying they were looking for him.
He told the court that when the so-called security men met with the junior brother of Audu Mohammed, they were threatening the life of Audu Mohammed, by saying that their work is to open fire on anybody or group of persons.
These offences according to the prosecutor contradict sections 349, 287, and 397 of the penal code law.
The presiding judge, Gambo A. Ibrahim, however discharged the accused person on the 1st and 2ndcount charges of criminal house trespass and theft, but sentenced him to 18 months imprisonment or a fine of N5000.00 for the offence of criminal intimidation.
