Vice-President Kashim Shettima has pledged the Federal Government’s support for traditional rulers in healthcare, education and other development areas, reaffirming their role in promoting national security and unity.
Shettima gave the assurance on Thursday when he received the 17th Emir of Gumel, Lawan Sani, during a courtesy visit to the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
He said President Bola Tinubu’s administration regarded traditional rulers as important partners in addressing security challenges, strengthening national unity and promoting economic development.
“Under the leadership of President Bola Tinubu, the Federal Government continues to hold traditional rulers in high esteem as the fathers of the nation and vital partners in advancing national security and unity,” the vice-president said.
Shettima described traditional rulers as parents and mirrors of society, commending the emir for his commitment to unity and peaceful coexistence.
He also praised Sani’s background in technology and experience as a bureaucrat, expressing confidence in his ability to promote growth and development in the emirate.
The vice-president assured the delegation of his continued personal support for the people of Gumel, particularly in healthcare, education and other areas of development.
In his response, the emir expressed appreciation to the Tinubu administration for its support to the emirate, particularly following the death of his predecessor, the late Emir Ahmad Sani II.
Sani said the Gumel Emirate Council would sustain its partnership with the Federal Government to improve the welfare of residents across various sectors.
He also prayed for the re-election of Tinubu and Shettima in 2027, while calling for peace and unity among Nigerians during the electioneering period.
