WHC Solar, a Chinese solar energy company, has trained about 300 installers on solar technology, equipment installation and quality service delivery in Kano State.
The one-day training, held at Tahir Guest Palace on Saturday, attracted participants from different parts of Nigeria and beyond.
Speaking at the opening of the programme, the Chief Executive Officer of WHC Solar, Clint Chan, said the training was designed to improve participants’ technical skills and equip them with the knowledge required to install solar power systems safely and efficiently.
Chan explained that the company organised the programme after identifying gaps in some installers’ technical knowledge, which could lead to installation errors, equipment damage and fire incidents.
“We noticed that some installers may not fully understand the technology, which can lead to mistakes that could damage products or even cause fire outbreaks,” he said.
He added that the training included practical sessions on installing and configuring inverters and lithium batteries, with emphasis on understanding how the components work together.
Chan said WHC Solar remained committed to investing in Nigeria and supporting the growth of the country’s renewable energy sector.
According to him, the company, which has operated for about 10 years, provides solar power solutions for residential buildings, commercial establishments and industries.
He also disclosed that WHC Solar operates a service centre in Kano to support customers and provide technical assistance.
Chan said participants were expected to receive certificates upon completing the training.
Also speaking, a distributor, Sani Abdulkadir, popularly known as ABDK, commended the company for the initiative, describing it as an opportunity to improve technical expertise and create employment opportunities for young Nigerians.
Abdulkadir said customers experiencing problems with WHC Solar products could take them to the company’s service centre for repairs, which he said could be completed within 24 hours, depending on the nature of the fault.
He noted that solar energy adoption was increasing across Nigeria as households and businesses sought alternative electricity solutions.
“Before, you could count the number of houses using solar energy, but the situation is changing as more people are embracing it,” he said.
The training comes amid growing interest in solar power systems in Nigeria, where reliable alternative energy solutions are increasingly important for households, businesses and industries.
Industry stakeholders say improving installers’ technical capacity and promoting safe installation practices are essential to protecting consumers, extending equipment lifespan and strengthening confidence in solar energy solutions.
