The Nigerian Local Government News is set to lead a new multimedia initiative aimed at promoting development communication across Africa.
A new media organisation, The Nigerian Local Government News, is set to launch a multimedia platform aimed at promoting development communication and strengthening public awareness of grassroots development across Africa.
The initiative will use The Nigerian Local Government News as its flagship brand, with plans to build what its promoters describe as Africa’s first authentic development communication media ecosystem.
The organisation is chaired by a journalist whose name was not provided in the announcement, while David Tosin Bakare, a fellow alumnus of the Jackson School of Journalism at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, will serve as Publisher and Editor-in-Chief.
Bakare brings extensive journalism experience to the new role, alongside previous experience as a marketing director in an international brewery.
The magazine arm of the publication is scheduled for introduction on October 24, in commemoration of World Development Information Day. The choice of date is intended to highlight the organisation’s commitment to development-oriented journalism and raise awareness of its activities among development partners and other stakeholders globally.
The initiative is expected to focus on development communication, with local government administration and grassroots development serving as key areas of interest.
A national launch of the media organisation is also planned for Abuja in the coming weeks.
The promoters expressed optimism that the new media platform would contribute to development-focused reporting and create greater visibility for local government initiatives and development activities across Africa.
