The Ovie of Oghara Kingdom and the Council of Chiefs have endorsed the upcoming Oghara Town Hall Meeting, scheduled for Saturday, August 15, 2026, at the Oghara Town Hall.
The endorsement followed a courtesy visit by the Oghara Study Group (OSG), led by its co-conveners, Rev. David Ugolor and Prof. Charles Ehweree, to the palace over the weekend. During the visit, the delegation presented the concept note for the proposed meeting to His Royal Majesty and the Council of Chiefs.
The concept note aims to create an inclusive platform for stakeholders to address the development challenges facing Oghara Kingdom. Following extensive deliberations, the proposal received the full support of the traditional leadership.
The OSG stated that the Town Hall Meeting is a direct response to its call for a broad-based community dialogue on the future of the kingdom. The meeting will bring together traditional rulers, youths, women, community leaders, religious leaders, government representatives,
security agencies, private sector representatives, civil society organisations, and other stakeholders.
Issues to be discussed include the rising cases of kidnapping and insecurity, drug abuse, youth unemployment, the protection of lives and property, the promotion of private sector investment, community development, and strategies to restore Oghara’s reputation as a peaceful and prosperous kingdom.
The Oghara Study Group expressed gratitude to His Royal Majesty and the Council of Chiefs for their support. Demonstrating his commitment to peace and development in the kingdom, the Ovie also offered spiritual blessings and financial support to ensure the success of the meeting.
According to the OSG, the palace’s endorsement marks an important step towards building consensus and strengthening community ownership of development initiatives in Oghara Kingdom.
The group urged all sons and daughters of Oghara, community associations, youth groups, women’s organisations, faith-based institutions, professional bodies, and development partners to participate in the dialogue.
“Together, we can build a safer, stronger, and more prosperous Oghara Kingdom,” the OSG stated.
