Prof. of Political Economy, Pat Utomi, has reacted to a viral video showing traders at Banex Plaza in Wuse 2, Abuja, chanting support for Peter Obi while booing promoters of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The footage, which has circulated widely on social media, captured traders and marketers chanting, “Na Peter Obi we want,” as APC members attempted to campaign for President Bola Tinubu by displaying campaign banners in the area.
The incident has generated mixed reactions, with some Nigerians interpreting the traders’ response as a sign of dissatisfaction with the ruling party, while others suggested that the demonstration reflected the political preferences of traders from Obi’s ethnic background.
Reacting to the video in a post on his official X handle, Utomi said supporters of the former Labour Party presidential candidate, popularly known as Obidients, could not easily be intimidated.
He described the enthusiasm displayed in the footage as extraordinary and expressed optimism about Nigeria’s political future ahead of the 2027 general elections.
“One of the beautiful things about Peter Obi is that his supporters are not the kind of people you can intimidate.
“The energy in this video is extraordinary. Nigeria will definitely be OK in 2027,” Utomi wrote.
The development comes as political parties and their supporters intensify activities ahead of the 2027 general elections, with public displays of support for political candidates increasingly attracting attention on social media.
