Hit and run driver crush teenager to death in Kaduna

A 13 year-old girl, Hafsat Mohammed  was yesterday crushed to death by a yet-to-be-identified hit-and-run driver along the Rabah Road.

According to an eyewitness, Hassan Umar, the deceased was in the company of her friend and were said to be on their way to Nagogo Road to pay Sallah homage to the employer of their father, one Alhaji Mohammed Nura.

“We saw them walking down the street talking and laughing when suddenly,   a car, which I presumed to be Honda but   could not   remember the model, came from their behind and on top speed; before we  knew what  was happening, the car hit the girl from  behind .

“Initially, we thought the driver would stop, because he slowed down his car, but to our surprise the driver zoomed-off at a top speed; we are all baffled with this and before we realized what was happening, the car was out of sight.

“We could not pursue the car because there was no vehicle available and the only one that stopped  later  agreed to take the girl to Badarawa Hospital where she was pronounced dead”, He said.

Nura said they were able to trace the parent of late Hafsat through her other brothers who were in her company.

When this correspondent visited the family house of Hafsat, at Majalisa Kwaru, her father Malam Mohammed Sule, who just returned from the Kwaru cemetery where his late daughter was laid to rest said he has not come to reality with what has happened.

“It is very shocking for you to crack joke with your daughter and within a short time you get a call that she is lying in the hospital dead. I am a Muslim and believed that from Allah (SWT) we came from and unto Him we all return; but as human beings,  one still experience some shock” he said.

Mallam Sule who incidentally is a driver said it is only a wicked driver that would knock down anybody not only a small girl that will zoom off.

A source close to Malali police station, confides in this correspondent that men from the Division have visited the crime scene and assured that all effort will be put in place to bring   the perpetrator to justice.
