Eight-man armed robbery gang arrested in Lagos

In eight man armed robbery gang whose ages ranged from 22 to 36 years old alleged to be terrorizing residents of Lekki and Ajah in Lagos State, have been arrested by the men of the anti-robbery squad of the Lagos State Police Command.

Briefing crime reporters at the Police Command headquarters in Ikeja ,the Lagos State Police Commissioner, Mr. Cornelius Aderanti revealed that on the 9th of October 2014 and at about 1730 hrs, the gang stormed the resident of one Albert Omisore who resides at Eletu Ogabi area of Victoria Island in Lagos state and made away with a Toyota Prado Jeep and other valuables.

He gave the names of the suspected robbers as Obinna Eyinma, Bernard Bongey, Emeka Uche, Chukuma Akabueze, David Toshua . Others are Ifeanyi Okafor ,Kichito Nwachukwu, Moses

Speaking further, he said the victims initially reported the case at the Bar Beach Police Station but because of the intricacies of the case, it was later transferred to the Anti- Robbery unit of the command, consequent upon which he instructed the Officer in charge of the Anti -Robbery unit, Abba Kyari, who is a Superintendent of Police (SP) to go after the fleeing robbers.

He said that Abba Kyari and his men, through diligent investigation and the deployment of advance technology were able to track the first suspect, Obinna Eyinma who incidentally is the gang leader to Jakande Beach in Ajah Lagos where he was arrested.

Upon interrogation Aderanti continued, Obinna confessed to the Police that he was indeed involved in the robbery of a Prado jeep and other valuables at the above mentioned address and subsequently led the security operatives to their criminal hideouts at Obalende and Kuramo beach respectively where Bernard Bongey a Benni Republic national and Moses Ogbu were arrested.

The robbers according to him, led SARS operatives to a bush in the Ogombo area where the snatched rifles buried in the swamps were recovered and that consequent upon this discovery, the men intensified their trail on the fleeing members of the gang and that the effort paid off when Moses Ogbu was arrested at Ishashi area of Lagos State and the stolen Toyota Prado Jeep with registration No AAA 690 BH when they robbed the residents of Omisore was recovered.

The Police boss informed that the men of the anti -robbery squad are currently on the trail of other fleeing members noting that as soon as investigations are concluded, the suspects will be charged to court
