From Omale Adama, Lokoja
Chief Judge of Kogi state, Justice Nasiru Ajanah has tasked law officers in the dispensation of justice to always collaborate with the police to ensure thorough investigation of cases for prosecution.
Justice Ajanah, who made the call during a courtesy call on him by the Executive Officers of the Law Officers Association of Nigeria on Friday in Lokoja, said this would help to ensure smooth administration of criminal justice. He stressed the maxim of “Justice Delayed is Justice Denied”, saying that reports reaching him revealed that most of the criminal cases pending in courts were not properly prosecuted as a result of improper investigations.
The Chief Judge regretted that delayed investigations had often resulted in unnecessary incarceration of the innocent making them to suffer for no reason.
Chief Ajanah therefore advised the law officers to always liaise with the prosecuting police officers to ensure thorough investigation of allegations.
The Chief Judge commended the association for coming together to tackle their issues from a common front saying that they should not fail to keep him informed about their up-coming fund raising.
Speaking earlier, chairman of the association, Mr Abdullahi Zakari said that the courtesy call was to enable them acquaint the Chief Judge with the activities of the Association.
The visit, he said, was also to congratulate him on the recent national award of CON conferred on him by President Goodluck Jonathan.
Mr Zakari said that the association comprised of lawyers from the state Ministry of Justice and were out to ensure the welfare members.
