Truck driver docked over alleged theft of employer’s tyres

A truck driver, Amoo Emmanuel, was on Wednesday charged before an Ota Magistrates’ Court in Ogun state, over the alleged theft of two tyres worth N200, 000 belonging to his employer.

Emmanuel, 34, who resides at No. 25, Ogundele St., Iyana Iyesi, Ota, Ogun, is facing a one-count charge of stealing. The Prosecutor, Cpl. Abdulkareem Mustapha, told the court that the accused committed the offence on May 9 at Iyana Iyesi Area, in Ota.

Mustapha said that the accused, who was the driver of a truck with registration No. BDG-408 XC, stole two tyres, valued N200, 000 belonging to Jeretment Nigeria Ltd., Ota, Ogun.

He said the offence contravened Section 390(9) (6) of the Criminal Code, Revised Law of Ogun, 2006. The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge. The Magistrate, Mrs. A.O. Abimbola, granted the accused bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum.

Abimbola said that the sureties must be working and reside within the court’s magisterial district and swear to an affidavit of means. She said that the sureties should provide evidence of 2013 tax clearance and submit their passport photographs to the court.

The case was adjourned till November 24, for further hearing. (NAN)
