A group under the aegis of the association of Police Contractors have appealed to the federal government to prevail on the leadership of the Nigeria Police Force to enhance the payment of the sum of N7.4 billion owed its between 2005 to 2012.
The leadership of the group made the call in Abuja while inaugurating its interim executives.
The President of the Association, Ugboma Stephen called on President Jonathan and the Finance Minister, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala to intervene in their plights as some of their colleagues are dying from lack of funds to sustain a healthy life while others have been hospitalized.
Chairman, Board of Trustee of the Association, Chief Patrick Ojo who commended President Jonathan on the success recorded based on the transformation agenda of his administration, urged the President to see their plight as matter of utmost urgency, because many of their members are indebted to banks and are suffering due to the non-payment of the contracts executed for the Police across the federation.
Chief Ojo said that the meeting was not called to protest in any way but for dialogue. “This is not time for protests but for dialogue and we must continue the dialogue with the authorities to ensure prompt payments”.
The Chairman who commended the Nigeria Police Force for their efforts towards combating insecurity, however demanded the immediate payment of the N7.8 billion debts owed them; adding that several of their colleagues had died while waiting to be paid, with little or no effort coming from the Police.
