West Africa Civil Society Institute (WASCI) on Wednesday launched an office called (Node) in Nigeria to strengthen the activities of the Nigeria Civil Society Organizations CSOs and also to encourage local donors.

Speaking during the launching in Abuja, the Executive Director, of WASCI, Nana Afadzinu said setting a Node here in Nigeria today, we are connecting civil society in Nigeria to work and resources to the WACSI office, which is about strengthening civil society organization and organizable society, 

“Looking at their institution, governance, management, and operation and at the same time looking at the environment that they are working, issues that they are engaged and how to make sure that they have knowledge capacity to engage those issues and as well as resources and how to build on resources and structures to support them with.

“We are happy to be here in Nigeria here today because this country is gifted with a high level of local phphilanthropistslike like the high net worth of individuals, organizations, and with upcoming social entrepreneurs who are ready to support their development with their work and their resources. 

Nigeria’s civil society has inspired so many other civil societies out there with their dynamic and we will make sure that this civil society will continue to be strong and enable Nigeria’s democratic project, peace and security, and the kind of prosperity we all need. 

Speaking on the politicization of CSOs in Nigeria, she explained that when we talk about the politicization of civil society organizations, it does not mean party and politics, but the awareness citizens need to politically stand and have a voice to speak about what is important to them and also to participate in their governance and development.
