Association calls for review of pastoral law

Billital Marrobe Pastoral Association of Nigeria; (BILMPAN) has called for the review of pastoral law in Nigeria, to allow for free movement of herdsmen within and outside the country.

The call was contained in a communiqué signed and made available to newsmen by the chairman of association, Alhaji Aliyu Muhammad Rimindako after the associations meeting in Katsina.

The communiqué further called for “holistic approach to conflicts mitigation between pastoralist and farmers through gazetting, development and securing of grazing reserves and stock routes by government at all levels”.

It also proposed for the provision of alternative socio-economic activities to pastoralists, especially according to it youths to reduce poverty by encouraging them to form groups and participate actively in producing alternative non- expensive source of livestock feed.

Similarly, the communiqué disclosed that Hajiya Amina Lawal Dutse was elected as the chairperson of the national committee for pastoralist women collective while calling on youths and women to strive in search of knowledge.

It further highlighted that the major objectives of the association include the promotion of unity, harmony, understanding and liaise with relevant government agencies at all levels in settling disputes and conflicts between nomads and farmers.

Declaring the meeting open, wife of the Katsina State Governor, Hajiya Fatima Shema praised the initiative of the association in forming the women wing, while calling on them to send their children to school.
