Professor Julius Ihonvbere has resigned his appointment as Secretary to Edo state government (SSG), leaving his followers disillusioned.
The SSG resignation, which came barely 24 hours after he lost the senatorial ticket of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Edo-North senatorial district of the state, is not unconnected with the party’s primary won by
Mr. Francis Alimikhena, who many believe is Governor Adams Oshiomhole’s kinsman.
Ihonvbere was appointed by Governor Oshiomhole at the countdown to 2011 General elections to replace Hon. Pally Iriase, House of Representatives member representing Owan federal constituency.
The Professor of Political Science had before the undisputed election told a section of the media that a period of political realignment which is the trend of politics has come.
The University Don, former Special Adviser on project Monitoring and Evaluation to President Olusegun Obasanjo came second with 816 votes ahead of the incumbent APC Senator Domingo Obende, who scored a total of 192 votes in the election.
Similarly, Governor Oshiomhole has accepted the resignation of Professor Julius Ihonvbere from the cabinet as Secretary to the State Government and wished him well in his future endeavour.
According to a terse statement by the chief press secretary to the governor, Mr. Peter Okhiria, the governor thanked Prof Ihonvbere for his services to the government and the state.
A public affairs commentator, Mr. Tony Abolo described the move as sad. “Ihonvbere for now has gone into oblivion like a nobody”, he said.
