Group commends Tinubu’s corruption fight, Emefiele’s sack

A group, Citizens Participation Against Corruption Initiative, has commended president,Bola Ahmed Tinubu for mustering courage to direct historic probe of Godwin Ifeanyi Emefiele, the sacked governor of Central Bank of Nigeria.

The group in a statement by Comrade Bishir Dauda Sabuwar, its Executive Director,

also hailed Mr. Jim Obazee, the special investigator which it said has done an excellent job without fear or favour.

“As a civil society organization; we can’t keep silent or take a neutral stand in the face of this mind-boggling corruption scandal . We therefore, wholeheartedly agree with Mr. Bayo Onanuga , and other well meaning and patriotic Nigerians, including development partners and international community, that the sacked governor of Nigeria’s Central Bank, Godwin Ifeanyi Emefiele must not get away with

the monumental allegations of illegalities leveled against him, including cases that bother on treason, terrorism financing, breaching CBN Act, personal aggrandizement and illicit enrichment of cronies, stealing and outright plunder, by Jim Obazee, the special investigator.

“Nigerians cannot simply forget how CBN under Emefiele haphazardly implemented “NAIRA REDESIGN POLICY” otherwise referred by some experts as “money confiscation”. This ill-thought policy did not only aggravate the suffering of Nigerian Citizens where people started sleeping on ATM queues to the extent that riots broke out in some states, but also was characterized by lack of transparency, accountability and political brouhaha. After reading the Obazee Report, we are dumbfounded to learnt that Emefiele did not even get the approval of the then President Buhari ,or recommendation by the board of CBN, as provides in Section 19 (1) of the CBN Act 2007.Yet ,he went ahead and implemented a policy that sabotaged Nigeria.Very unfortunate ,to have learnt from the report that it was Tunde Sabi’u,who directed Emefiele,to redesign the Naira.”

The group added that Emefiele and his accomplices must be prosecuted is the way and manner, they fleeced Nigeria in the name of “Ways and Means financing”.

It said based on Obazee report, Emefiele could not account for N17.369 Trillion.

“Is that the reason why recently, the National Security Adviser, mallam Nuhu Ribadu said “Nigeria is facing budget constraints”? That the country is technically bankrupt.

“There is no gainsaying the fact that there is no country on this earth that can survive this type of corruption. The situation is even more dangerous that this scam is perpetrated at the level of Central Bank of Nigeria!

“The ways and means which compounded Nigeria ‘s debt was a scam. It was a conduit through which Emefiele and his co-travelers swindled Nigeria .And Nigerians must rise to ensure this brazen impunity doesn’t succeed.”
