Expert advises young girls to acquire training in ICT

Date:

An Uyo-based female Information Communication Technology (ICT) expert, Mrs Ibanga Udoekpo, on Tuesday, advised young girls in the state to acquire training in ICT.

Udoekpo, who made the call at a news conference in Uyo, said ICT was lucrative and should not be left for men to dominate.

She said young ladies should put more effort and be determined to excel in the sector, considering the fact that the world was moving into digital age.

The ICT expert said youths had huge potential in information technology, adding that “a lot of young ladies in the state feel that IT is not an area for women, so they do not consider making a career in the field.

“Research has shown that young girls do not always have interest in IT at their early stage in life.

“I, therefore, want to call on girls and young ladies to embrace ICT because the world is moving toward making and doing everything digital and we cannot be left out.’’

She then advised young girls to seek role models who had excelled in the profession and also look at how they could use information technology to run their businesses in a more efficient and comfortable way. (NAN)
