Chemical Society urged to link up with research institutions nationwide

The minster of science and technology, Dr Abdu Bulama, has called on the members of the chemical society of Nigeria to link up with research institutes across the nation.

The minister, who said this during a courtesy visit by the chemical society of Nigeria to his office in Abuja, urged the society to steadfastly support government’s effort towards strengthening Science and Technology in the nation.

He identified the place of a chemist in national development as strategic and crucial.

In a press statement by his SA media, Hassan Gimba, he said, “Chemistry takes the preponderance of the activities of most our agencies and therefore it affects all aspects of our national life.

He stated that transformation agenda of Mr. President cannot be realised without instrumentality of science and technology.

He also called on the experts in chemical technology to bring their innovations to bear on government’s programmes that are focused on the common good of the general populace.

Dr Bulama said that due to the role of chemist in physical science, there is need for the promotion of the unity among the members of the society for the growth of science in the country.

The minister who is a follow of the chemical society of Nigeria has reiterated his preparedness to work together with the rest of the members of the society so as to promote Science, Technology and Innovation.

In his remark, the head of the delegation, Dr. Henry O. Egharevba of National institute for pharmaceutical research and development (NIPRD) Abuja, said they were in the ministry to felicitate with the minister over his well deserved appointment by Mr. President.

He also said they came to inform him on the number of activities and programmes lined up for next year.

The programmes, they listed as hosting of the federation of African Chemical societies (FASC) international conference in Abuja by September, 2015, hosting of the American Chemical society (ACS) Festival of Chemistry in Abuja by September 2015, National Essay competition, chemistry Quiz completion, Award/ Dinner Night, Establishment of a functional secretariat and CSN Abuja Newsletter.

Besides, the society also solicited for the equipping of the office space to make it a functional secretariat, acquisition of a bus for the chapter secretariat and actualization of the above programmes project.
