Yobe state Executive Council has approved the release of the sum of N1.6 billion for improving works on some road projects to meet required standard for durability.

This was the outcome of the end of the year 2014 meeting of the council held at the council chamber in the state government house, which was chaired by the state Governor, Alh. (Dr.) Ibrahim Gaidam.

Briefing newsmen after the meeting, the state commissioner for home affairs and information, Alhaji Goni Fika told newsmen that the sum of N1.16 billion out the amount was earmarked, as additional cost, to effect a change in the scope of the Yunusari to Yusufari 50 kilometer road which was awarded to EEC International Limited, from surface dressing to asphalt wearing course.

He said the remaining sum of N438.4 million would be spend to effect variation, as requested by the contractor handling the project, RRC Nigeria limited, on the construction of Bayamari to Yunusari 45 kilometer road project, pointing that this variation arises because of some typographic errors made on the bills for the project particularly the quantity of stone base and laterite haulage.

He said the contractor has been asked to continue with the work while the request on such variation is receiving attention by the state government.

He also disclosed that the council received a copy of handwritten Holy Quran from the state ministry of religious affairs and that the state government has approved its printing in Egypt.
