The Forum of Northern Governors Wives on Wednesday donated relief materials worth forty million naira to the displaced persons in the recent communal crisis in three states of the region.
Presenting the relief materials to Nasarawa state government, the Chairperson of the forum, Mrs. Yemisi Gabriel Susuwan of Benue state opined that the gesture was part of their responsibilities to rendered assistance to the victims of the crisis in most parts of the states in the north.
According to her the three states that benefited from the relief materials are Benue, Borno and Nasarawa while states like Adamawa, Plateau and Gombe would be the next batch.
Mrs. Yemisi Gabriel Susuwan explained that the forum identified the effort of their husbands to contribute to humanity over the unfortunate incidences in some states.
As according to her, the federal and the state governments alone cannot handle the issue of displaced persons without the contribution of other relevant stakeholders.
She further used the occasion to condole the government and people of Nasarawa state over the incessant killings in some parts of the state.
Receiving the items, Governor Umaru Tanko Almakura told them that the state government has evolved a new strategy for conflict resolution to ensure peaceful co-existence amongst diverse ethnic groups in the state.
Almakura however commended the forum for their kind gesture and assured that by next week the state government would distribute building materials to those affected by the recent uprising.
Meanwhile the wife of Nasarawa state governor, Hajiya Salamatu Tanko Almakura applauded the people of the state for their effort to live peaceful with one another and appealed to them to maintain the culture.
