Aliyu donates N5m to victims of Kaffin- Koro market fire disaster

The Niger State Governor, Dr Muazu Babangida Aliyu has donated the sum of N5million to the victims of fire disaster at the Kaffin Koro Yam market in Paikoro Local Government Council of the state.

The governor announced the donation during an inspection visit to the market saying that the donation was the first phase of government intervention to help those whose merchandize was razed to get back to business.

Aliyu who was on impact assessment visit to the market was told by the Traders chairman that the fire started in the evening on Sunday took several hours before it was put off.

He urged officials of the council to ensure equitable distribution of the donation adding that the need for victims to go back to their trade immediately cannot be overemphasized.

Aliyu said government was committed to the general welfare of the masses at all times intimating that plans to sink two boreholes at the market to ease water supply has been concluded and work to commence immediately.

He also told the traders that the government would look into their request for the construction of modern market as well as the provision of adequate security in the area to enhance trading of yams and other staple.

Governor Aliyu therefore commended the traders and people of the community for maintaining calm and cooperating to contain the fire disaster. He also praised them for their support and cooperation to the state and local government, calling for more cooperation saying, “We shall continue to seek your understanding at all times.

The council chairman Alhaji Abdullahi Bawa also assured the traders that the council in collaboration with the state gove

In his remark, the chairman of Traders Association, Mallam Ibrahim Nasir applauded the Governor for his timely intervention. He however called for government continuous assistance to make business much easier for the traders.
