The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Alhaji Aminu Tambuwal, says politicians who sponsor violence are enemies of the nation’s democracy.

Tambuwal said this in Sokoto on Monday at an interactive session with students of tertiary institutions drawn from across the state.

“Violence only begets violence, and always breeds retrogression as well as under-development.

“Therefore, no sane and patriotic person will sponsor youths or any group of persons to perpetrate violence and the breach of peace in the state and Nigeria.

“I am therefore vehemently rejecting such obnoxious trends and dissociate myself and my party, the All Progressives Congress (APC) from any acts of violence, in any form,’’ he said.

Tambuwal, who is also the governorship candidate of the APC in the state, urged youths in the country not to indulge in any acts capable of disrupting the peace and unity of the nation.

He promised to sustain the programmes and policies of Gov. Aliyu Wamakko aimed at uplifting the living standard of the youths, women and other vulnerable groups, if elected.

The chairman of the occasion, Dr Ali Inname, the Special Adviser to Wamakko on ICT, said the session was to sensitise the students and youths to the need for peace and unity.

“It is also aimed at intimating the youths on the need to stay away from any forms of violence and the need to positively participate in the ongoing electoral processes,’’ Inname said.
