The Speaker of the House of Representatives Rt. Hon. Abbas Tajudeen, Ph.D, has expressed sadness over the death of one person as a result of the flood that affected some parts of Kosofe Federal Constituency of Lagos State.

Speaker Abbas also expressed concern that the flood displaced over 2,000 people from their homes.

The Speaker called on the relevant federal and state authorities to take immediate action to forestall the recurrence of such incident.

He also urged the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) immediately provide the necessary interventions for the displaced persons.

Speaker Abbas applauded the Chairman of the House Committee on Women Affairs and Social Development, Hon. Kafilat Ogbara, for offering shelter to the displaced, who are from her constituency.

The flood affected a school, which turned to a residential building with 500 rooms, popularly known as Agboye Estate, Oduntan Street, Ketu, in the Ikosi-Isheri LCDA of Lagos State. It caved in on Saturday, following hours of rainfall that greeted most parts of the state.

In her response to the disaster, Ogbara reportedly donated a 10-bedroom duplex and boys’ quarters, which served as her constituency office, for the affected families especially children to take refuge.

The Speaker said the news of Hon. Ogbara’s kind gesture was pleasantly surprising, while commending the lawmaker for showing leadership by example.
