A governorship aspirant in Abia state, Chief Barr Onugu-Kalu Ogba has assured the people of the state of a government that will focus on the welfare and security of lives and property.
Ogba who spoke with newsmen after his screening at the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) said the time has come for the peop.le of the state to enjoy the dividends of democracy, which according to him have eluded them due to bad governance.
He equally expressed confidence in getting the ticket ahead of the other aspirants, considering the zoning arrangement in the state.
The aspirant who hails from Ohafia, Abia North Senatorial District argued that it’s in the best interest of the PDP to zone its governorship ticket to the North because apart from having the huge population to win election, he also noted that since the incumbent governor, Dr. Alex Otti is from Abia South (Aba), that power should shift to the North in 2027.
“I’m in this race because of the urgent need to rescue Abia state from the clutches of bad leaders. Since the creation of the state, we have not been lucky with leaders. What we have been getting is self centered people who masquerade as leaders.
“Even the one that is there today, it’s almost the same thing. Those who are not in the state are being deceived with social media propaganda, but when you get to the state, you will find out that there is nothing spectacular about the administration of Governor Alex Otti.
“Again, going by every known permutations, I stand the best chance to not only clinch the PDP ticket, but to also win the state for the PDP. In Abia, there are three zones and the incumbent governor is from Aba, Abia Central, the immediate former governor, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu is from Abia South, and Sen. Theodore Orji is also from Abia Central, therefore the Abia North has not been given the opportunity since after the administration of Sen. Orji Uzor Kalu”.
Ogba while speaking on what he intends to do if elected said his first priority will be youth empowerment through the creation of opportunities for them to engage in medium and small scale industries.
He also listed education and the provision of adequate security, as well as development of science and technology as a catalyst for the development of the state.
“We have the youths in our programme. We want to create opportunities for the youth. Abia youths graduate and and they leave the state to Abuja and Lagos.
And you know why? We need to create opportunities for Abia youths to be in the state and succeed. And let me tell you that the youths are the major key driving this campaign, driving this new agenda. It’s a new mindset, it’s a new direction, and the aim is to move Abia forward.
“We’re going to industrialize Abia. There’s so many resources in Abia that are not yet tapped. The successive governments have not payed attention to them because it may not yield profits in the immediate.
“But it’s not about you as the governor, it’s about the ones coming after you, it’ about tomorrow, it’s about prosperity. That’s the new mindset, creating investment that tomorrow leaders will climb on and prosper”, he concluded.
