Abians in diaspora urged to grow economy through political participation

A former President of the Umuahia Development Association (UDA) in the United States of America (USA), Sir Chudi Onyeama yesterday advised indigenes of Abia state abroad to return home and contribute to the development of the state through active participation in politics.

The development expert, told journalists in Lagos that the state need the expertise of its elites in various endeavour to actively get involve in the running of the government of the eastern state explaining that charlatans had been allowed to dominate the political sphere over the past years.

He said most policies of the government had made it impossible to re-position the state and make it viable economically.

According to him, the lack of quality representation and poor governance has been the bane of Abia state leaving the state at the bottom of the development ladder in the country.

Onyeama, who had worked at the Maryland State Governor’s Office for many years, said he was back home to the seek the mandate of his Umuahia-Ikwuano Federal Constituency to represent them at the House of Representatives.

“Nigerian egg-heads such as Philip Emeagwali and other talented people should return home to be part of the effort to find lasting solutions to the myriad of problems plaguing Nigeria, It is obvious that Nigeria’s problem is not a lack of resources or manpower, our problem is our inability to put round pegs in round holes in issues of leadership

“The best approach to take Nigeria out of the doldrums was for its citizens including those in the Diaspora to return home to contribute their knowledge,” he added.
