Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) Zaria will represent Nigeria at the 2026 ENACTUS World Cup in São Paulo, Brazil, this November, after winning the national championship at the ENACTUS Nigeria National Competition.
The university earned the right to represent the country after its victory at the 2026 national finals held at the Civic Center, Lekki, Lagos, from August 11 to 15.
The competition gathered ENACTUS teams from universities and polytechnics across Nigeria who presented entrepreneurial and social innovation projects before a panel of academics, business leaders, entrepreneurs, and industry experts.
ABU’s team distinguished itself with a project aimed at addressing issues in the tomato agricultural value chain, especially pre-harvest pest infestation and post-harvest losses.
With this win, ABU will now join teams from 36 ENACTUS countries worldwide to showcase their project on the global stage in November.
Prof. M.K. Aliyu, mni, Faculty Advisor to ENACTUS ABU, described the victory as a significant milestone for the university, its students, and the farming communities affected by the project
He credited the success to months of research, community engagement, product development, farmer training, and partnership building.
“This is the result of the dedication of students, alumni, mentors, partners, and the entire university community,” said Prof. Aliyu.
“As we prepare to represent the university and Nigeria globally, we sincerely seek the ongoing support of ABU management to uphold the university’s positive image in this endeavor.”
The Faculty Advisor also expressed appreciation to the Vice-Chancellor and University Management for their continuous support for student innovation and entrepreneurship.
He also acknowledged the contributions of ICERFE, NAERLS, East-West Seed Nigeria, IAR, and the Department of Crop Protection, whose technical expertise and research support helped transform the students’ ideas from concept to impact.
Prof. Aliyu led the ABU delegation, including team leaders and over 150 members, to the national competition in Lagos.
The student leadership team features Abdulfattah O. Omisanya as the Team Leader; Augustine Onoja as Project Manager; George O. Otegwu as Secretary General; Hajara Abdulmumin as Financial Secretary; Mohammad Kabiru Umar as Technical Director; and Peace John as Social Media Officer.
