From Bashir Rabe Mani, Sokoto
The Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar, has urged Nigerians to actively foster peace across all levels of society, describing harmony as the indispensable foundation for security, national progress, and religious practice.
Speaking on Tuesday at a two-day Conflict Sensitivity Training for Media Practitioners and Influencers, the royal father emphasized that no meaningful development or daily activity can occur in the absence of stability.
“Without peace, there would be no peace of mind. We should work tirelessly, day and night, to ensure that peace prevails within our nations.
“Without peace, nothing can work properly,” the Sultan stated.
Represented by the Wazirin Sokoto, Prof. Sambo Wali Junaidu, the President-General of the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA), noted that peaceful coexistence is essential for religious freedom and mutual cooperation among citizens.
He stressed the importance of instilling these values in the younger generation to ensure long-term stability and social cohesion.
The training event, sponsored by the European Union and facilitated by International Alert, brought together key media stakeholders to establish a Community of Practice (CoP) aimed at advancing conflict-sensitive reporting.
Also speaking at the event, the Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Sokoto State Council, Comrade Usman Mohammed Binji, highlighted the vital role of the press in maintaining peace.
Binji urged journalists to prioritize accurate and responsible reporting, particularly as the nation prepares for the 2027 general elections, to ensure the media contributes positively to regional and national stability.
