Jenny-Glo Hospitals, Abuja, is set to strengthen the capacity of medical practitioners in minimally invasive gynaecological procedures with a specialised two-day training programme on hysteroscopy and gynaecological endoscopy.
The training, scheduled for October 22 and 23, 2026, is expected to bring together doctors seeking to acquire or improve their practical skills in hysteroscopy, a procedure that enables clinicians to examine the inside of the uterus using a specialised instrument known as a hysteroscope.
The initiative comes amid growing interest in minimally invasive approaches to the diagnosis and management of a range of gynaecological conditions, with practitioners increasingly requiring specialised technical knowledge to effectively use modern endoscopic equipment.
According to Jenny-Glo Hospitals Training Team, access to a hysteroscope alone does not necessarily translate into competence in performing the procedure, making practical training and exposure an important component of professional development.
The programme will be facilitated by Associate Professor Austin Umezulike, who will lead participants through both the theoretical and practical aspects of hysteroscopy.
The organisers said participants would be introduced to the fundamental principles of hysteroscopy and become familiar with the various instruments and equipment used during hysteroscopic procedures.
A major component of the programme will be hands-on practical sessions designed to give participants an opportunity to translate theoretical knowledge into practical skills.
Participants will also observe live demonstrations of techniques, discuss clinical cases and examine some of the practical challenges that doctors may encounter when incorporating hysteroscopy into their clinical practice.
The organisers said the interactive nature of the programme would also enable participants to learn from experienced faculty while sharing experiences and challenges with fellow practitioners.
The training is particularly targeted at doctors who are new to hysteroscopy, medical practitioners considering the introduction of hysteroscopy services into their practices, as well as practitioners who already have some experience but want to improve their skills and confidence.
Jenny-Glo Hospitals said the programme was designed to provide participants with an opportunity to “learn, practise and build confidence” in hysteroscopy and gynaecological endoscopy.
Hysteroscopy is commonly used in gynaecological practice to allow doctors to directly visualise the uterine cavity and can form part of the evaluation of certain conditions affecting the uterus.
Its minimally invasive nature makes appropriate training particularly important in ensuring that practitioners understand the procedure, equipment and clinical considerations involved.
The organisers encouraged doctors interested in developing their competence in hysteroscopy to take advantage of the practical training opportunity, particularly those seeking greater exposure before introducing or expanding hysteroscopy services in their practices.
