The Non-teaching staff at the Federal University Gashua (FUGA) have joined an indefinite nationwide strike, shutting down administrative and essential services on campus from midnight, Friday, May 1, 2026.
The Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU) and the Non-Academic Staff Union of Educational and Associated Institutions (NASU), FUGA branch, announced their compliance with directives from their national bodies following a Joint Action Committee (JAC) meeting held at the university’s 300-capacity lecture theatre.
The decision was jointly announced by the SSANU FUGA Chairman, Comrade Kaka Bukar Dikwa, and his NASU counterpart.
According to the unions, the industrial action became necessary due to unresolved disputes with the Federal Government.
The key issues include the renegotiation of welfare packages, payment of outstanding allowances, and other conditions of service affecting non-teaching staff across Nigerian universities.
The unions directed their members to withdraw all services with immediate effect and emphasized that the strike would remain total and indefinite until their demands are fully addressed.
The development is expected to significantly disrupt administrative operations and other essential services at FUGA, potentially affecting the smooth running of academic activities at the institution.
