*Five Suspects Arrested as Intelligence-Led Operation Frees Seven Victims

Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun has commended the Department of State Services (DSS), the Nigerian Army, the Nigeria Police Force, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), and other security operatives for the successful rescue of five abducted students of Gateway ICT Polytechnic, Saapade, in Remo North Local Government Area.

The students, who were kidnapped earlier this week, regained their freedom in the early hours of Friday following an intelligence-led operation conducted around the Alamala community, off Ayetoro Road Roundabout in Abeokuta. Two other kidnapped victims, who were not students, were also rescued during the operation.

Five suspects were arrested in connection with the kidnapping, while security agencies have continued efforts to apprehend other members of the criminal gang.

Governor Abiodun described the rescue as a significant breakthrough in Ogun State’s ongoing fight against kidnapping and other violent crimes. He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to ensuring that criminals have no safe haven in the state.

He praised the coordinated efforts of the DSS, Nigerian Army, Police, NSCDC, Ogun State Security Network Agency (Amotekun Corps), local vigilantes, and hunters, describing the operation as evidence of the effectiveness of intelligence sharing and inter-agency collaboration.

“One of the victims sustained a gunshot injury during the incident and was immediately evacuated for medical attention. The victim has since been stabilised,” the governor said.

He added that security operations are still ongoing to apprehend all those linked to the kidnapping.

“Our resolve is very clear. Ogun State will remain hostile to criminality and safe for every law-abiding citizen, resident and investor,” Abiodun stated.

The governor noted that recent joint security initiatives, particularly Operation Kò S’Áyé, have strengthened intelligence gathering, enhanced collaboration among security agencies, and sustained pressure on criminal elements operating within the state.

Governor Abiodun also commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for prioritising national security through sustained investment in the operational capacity of the Armed Forces and other security agencies.

According to him, the Federal Government’s efforts to improve intelligence coordination, procure modern security equipment, and implement reforms have significantly enhanced inter-agency cooperation across the country.

He further noted that the recent approval of improved salaries and welfare packages for personnel of the Armed Forces would boost morale and strengthen ongoing security operations.

A security source also confirmed that one of the rescued victims sustained a gunshot wound during the rescue operation but was promptly evacuated to a medical facility and has since been stabilised.

The successful rescue adds to recent security gains recorded across the country as security agencies intensify operations against kidnapping, banditry, and other violent crimes.
