No fewer than 17 young men have been confirmed dead in a ghastly motor accident along Zaria-Kano road.
Peoples Daily gathered that the accident occurred on Saturday evening when the victims were returning to Kano after attending the wedding of their friend in Kaduna.
It was gathered that the deceaseds were travelling aboard Kano Line bus when they were involved in the ghastly accident.
Sadiq Abdullahi, a friend to one of the deceased, identified as Umar Abba Sheriff, said he received the news of his death around 8:00pm.
He said, when he heard the information, he did not believe until he called the deceased sister, Aisha, who confirmed to him that his friend was involved in the accident and he died on the spot.
He said all of them are from Sani Mainagge area of Gwale Local Government Area of the state.
This newspaper gathered that 11 of the victims died instantly, while the remaining six passed away in a hospital.
The cause of the accident is yet to be ascertained, as the phone number of the spokesman of Kano command of Federal Road Safety Corp, FRSC, Muhammad Mu’awiyya Kangiwa is switched off until the time of filing this report.
In the same vein, the state governor, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje had condoled with the families of the deceaseds.
In a statement by Abba Anwar, his Chief Press Secretary, Ganduje said “their death was shocking. This is a great loss not only to their families or to the people of Sani Mainagge, but to all of us”.
