Acute diarrhea disease kills 7 people, 177 admitted in Adamawa hospital —Commissioner

Seven persons were confirmed dead over the acute diarrhea disease in Adamawa state.
Commissioner of Health, Hon.Felix Tan- gwami made the confirmation while updating journalists on the acute digestive disorder situation in Yola on Tuesday.
He stressed that 117 patients were admitted at the Yola Specialist hospital.
Tangwami said most of the patients have been treated and discharged while those with serious cases have been isolated for medical attention at the hospital facility.
Tangwami explained that in situations of epidemic, laid down procedures are applied to determine the efficacy of any disease in contemplation.
He maintained that medical experts have since taken samples from patients and have been sent to National referral laboratory for the culture and sub-culture analysis which will determine the type of organism involved and the nature of the disease.
“The Government is not hiding anything, rather following due process in handling sensitive life threatening health concerns with the hope to know the outcome of the result of the samples in the next twenty four (24) hours from the National Centre for Disease Control,NCDC.
“For now, nobody can confirm that what we are facing is cholera out break until all necessary analysis are conducted thoroughly and results are out.
“We don’t have the PCR equipment for testing the collected samples here in Yola. So, we have to send it to Abuja for confirmation which would be ready in the next 48 hours “.
He, however, admonished the public to desist from jumping to conclusions without experts advice, especially in health related issues.
It would be recalled that there was outcry of the cholera pandemic outbreak in the state recently which local health workers concluded to be cholera outbreak.
