The Adamawa state government in conjunction with European Union, EU, and British Council have entered in to a new synergy aimed at enhancing state and community level conflict management proactive capabilities.
Commissioner of Information and Strategy Adamawa State, Comrade Ahmad Sajoh disclosed this in Yola at the state Policy Dialogue Forum organised by his Ministry as part of the Governor Muhammad Umaru Jibrilla ‘s administration plan to produce more proactive measures in tackling conflicts in the state and beyond.
Comrade Sajoh while delivering his welcome address to the invited stakeholders at the forum captioned; “Enhancing state and community level conflict management capability in the North Eastern programme” said the government intention in queuing in to the program was for the experts in management to assist with the modern techniques in addressing crisis situations in the state.
Sajoh posited that all hands must be deck in the timely efforts to avoid conflicts at an early stage noting that the outcome of the dialogue will be documented and presented to the Government to serve as a working document in governance.
He stated that solutions would produce more peaceful and purposeful Adamawa state for all to benefit its conducive atmosphere for human endeavours.
In his keynote address, an official of the British Council of Nigeria Kano, Professor Muhammad Tabi’u said the programme is to enhance the capability of institutions and actors at state and local level to manage conflicts better I order to reduce the incidence and impact of violence.
“The reduction of violence will promote the stability of these communities and states contributing to improvements in human security in the region (North East)”.Professor added.
Professor Tabi’u explained that the programme is funded by European Union under the Emergency Trust Fund for Africa with a budget of £21Million to be implemented by the British council to run for 4years(2017-2021).
According to him, the programme expects to have 4,070 direct beneficiaries and approximately 2.3million indirect beneficiaries.
Earlier in his speech at the Dialogue Forum, Deputy Governor of the state, Engineer Martins Babale expressed appreciation to the partners for picking Adamawa as a pilot state for the scheme.
Babale said the state has experienced conflict and violence situations recently where many lives were lost noting that breach of peace remains unacceptable to the present government in the state.
