The Senator representing Adamawa South Senatorial District, Binos Dauda Yaroe, has said he cannot align with the All Progressives Congress, (APC), insisting that the party has failed to address the needs of his constituents.
Yaroe, who recently left the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, disclosed that he is now aligned with the African Democratic Congress, (ADC), and ruled out any move to the APC, describing such a step as a betrayal of public trust.
Speaking during a political engagement in Numan, Adamawa State, the senator said persistent neglect of the southern senatorial zone by the Federal Government has left him with no justification to campaign for the APC-led administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
He said he would only have considered working with the APC if it had guaranteed presidential assent to his proposed Federal University of Education, Numan bill, which he has championed for years.
According to him, the refusal of assent to the bill remains a major setback for both him and the people of the zone, adding that it weakens his ability to convince constituents to support the ruling party.
“If they had told me that joining APC would guarantee the passage of the Federal University of Education Numan bill, I would have risked my political future for the interest of my people,” he said.
“But after everything we did at the Senate, the bill was denied assent. How then do I go to my people and campaign for APC? There is practically nothing to show them.”
Yaroe further alleged that Southern Adamawa, which comprises nine local government areas, has remained largely neglected in federal development projects over the years.
He also stated that he was among a group of senators who resisted pressure to defect to the APC, stressing that his loyalty remains with his constituents.
“Senatorial representation is a trust. I cannot betray the people who elected me simply to protect my political interest,” he added.
