ADC accuses FG of policy reversals, poor budget implementation

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has criticised President Bola Tinubu’s administration, describing it as the most ineffective government in Nigeria’s history.
In a statement issued by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, the ADC said the government has struggled to properly implement national budgets and has repeatedly reversed policy and appointment decisions.
According to the party, Nigeria is currently in an unusual situation where the federal government is handling three national budgets at the same time without fully implementing any of them.
It said reports show that although the 2024 budget was extended into 2025, only a small portion of the capital spending had been released by the third quarter of 2025.
The party rejected the government’s claim that the arrangement is part of a strategy to complete long-term projects, arguing that the explanation does not make sense.
The ADC also pointed out that part of the 2025 budget is expected to run between February and November 2026, while the remaining portion is being moved into the 2026 budget, which lawmakers are still debating months into the year.
The statement added that key sectors such as power, communications, education, and health have recorded low levels of capital spending, which the party said raises concerns about the government’s priorities.
It noted that the Ministry of Defence is the only ministry that has spent more than its budget allocation, largely because of emergency funding, yet security challenges remain serious in several parts of the country.
The ADC further questioned how government revenue and loans are being used, saying Nigerians continue to face economic hardship despite reports of improved revenue and foreign reserves.
“The Tinubu government has proven that to them everything is about politics and power for its own sake. This is why Nigerians are being slaughtered at an industrial scale across the country while the government feasts.
“This is why, despite all the propaganda of having performed wonders, Nigeria still holds the ignoble position of having the highest number of people in the world living in extreme poverty, with at least six out of every ten Nigerians unable to feed themselves,” it added.
“Yet what we see is a government that continues to gloat over its ‘victory’ in the FCT election and obsess over ADC online membership registration,” it said.
The party also accused the administration of frequently reversing major decisions and focusing more on politics and elections than governance.
