The African Democratic Congress has faulted what it called an “illegitimate and desperate attempt” by some coalition members to expel Hon. Leke Joseph Abijide, the member representing Yagba Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives.
The party issued the warning in a statement on Friday by its Director of Media and Public Affairs, Dr Christopher O. Okechukwu.
Okechukwu said the actions of the individuals behind the purported expulsion were inconsistent with the party’s values and intended to undermine its progress.
He noted that Abijide had remained committed to restoring the party’s legitimate leadership structure and supporting efforts to convene a credible national convention.
According to him, the purported expulsion was carried out by “unregistered, self-appointed members” of the National Working Committee who lacked the authority to interfere in party affairs.
“Their behaviour is a clear attempt to marginalise loyal party members and seize control for personal gain,” he said.
Okechukwu added that Abijide’s only “offence” was his steadfast support for the party’s recognised leadership and ongoing litigation challenging INEC’s alleged illegal recognition of David Mark’s faction.
Reaffirming its position, the ADC said it would resist any attempt to hijack its structures or disrupt its democratic processes.
“The coalition members and the so-called NWC lack the locus standi to punish a bona fide member of the ADC, let alone an elected member of the House of Representatives,” Okechukwu stated.
He reiterated that the party remained resolute in defending its internal democracy and protecting its institutional integrity.
