The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has announced a change of venue for its national convention scheduled for Tuesday, April 14, 2026, shifting the event to the Rainbow Event Centre in Abuja following earlier uncertainty over access to major public facilities in the capital.
According to the party, the new venue was selected to ensure a central, accessible, and well-coordinated gathering for delegates and stakeholders expected from across Nigeria. The ADC said holding the convention in Abuja underscores the national importance of the event and its commitment to inclusivity.
The development comes after days of tension and reports of difficulty securing a location. The party had earlier sought approval to use Eagle Square, Abuja, a federal government-owned event facility, but claimed it had not received a response from the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) authorities.
It also explored alternatives, including the Moshood Abiola National Stadium Velodrome, but those options reportedly did not materialize.
Media aide to the party’s leadership, Kola Ologbondiyan, had alleged that the party was still awaiting confirmation for a venue just 24 hours before the convention, raising concerns about preparedness.
However, the Minister of the FCT, Nyesom Wike, dismissed suggestions of political interference, insisting that no formal application from the party had been received regarding Eagle Square.
He maintained that the venue remains open to all groups that follow due process and pay required fees, describing the claims as attempts to generate public sympathy.
The convention is expected to be attended by key political figures within the party, including former Senate President David Mark, former Osun State Governor Rauf Aregbesola, and former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, who have been linked to recent high-level engagements within the party’s structure.
With the new venue confirmed, the ADC says preparations are now in full swing for what it describes as a decisive national gathering ahead of its next phase of political organization.
